Movie Club updates
Hello dear UltDog readers,
This is a our once-in-a-blue-moon substack post to bring a few things to your attention.
First and foremost: this Substack is not active. At one time there was an idea to use this space as a means of resharing posts from the main site within the specificity of the way text is presented here, but I (Max) soon realized that it took a lot more work than expected and had to give up. I was, however, reluctant to shut down this space fully. So, since it’s still here, I will make a once-in-a-blue-moon post to remind anyone who hasn’t already done so, that the Movie Club is the absolute number one way to support Ultra Dogme, and therefore our ability to support the writers and filmmakers who work with us.
These are not empty words: all of the money that goes into the UD Patreon goes into running UD, paying our writers for letting us publish their words, and paying our filmmakers for letting us show their moving image work to a streaming audience. Thus the benefits of joining are two-fold; Movie Club subscribers get two-week access to an exclusive monthly streaming program carefully curated by the UD editors (Malkah, Max & Ruairí), and you can get the best sleep of your life knowing you are supporting the UD project as a whole (a fully independent site that exists to give due attention to underappreciated artists and younger writers). By the people, for the people.
And on that note, TODAY is the very last day to watch TWO simultaneous programs, as our February program (Two films by Chantal Partamian) and January program (Two films by Standish Lawder) are both available through the end of today (regardless of time zone). This is the first time that a monthly program has had a second run in the Movie Club, so if you’ve made it until today without seeing the brilliant and cosmic ‘Raindance’ (1972), consider this the last call!
As for what comes next, we just announced yesterday on Patreon that the March Movie Club program will present ‘Scrap Vessel’ (2009) by Jason Byrne, a fascinating 16mm documentary observing “a cargo ship’s journey on its way to becoming a phantom”.
That’s all for now! The Movie Club is $7 per month, but if you just want to support us there is also a $5 tier. I hope you’ll sign up here:
See you on the other side! Thank you! I wish you all a fortuitous year of the wooden snake.
With gratitude & in solidarity,
MLP
